OLIVA Plays OLIVA

VOLUME 4

The NOMENTANA Files - 1982

To translate the whole story and the lirycs to English would distract me from my music projects, so for the moment I will only post the music itself.

In short, these were demos for an album which has never been recorded.

25 years later I remixed them in their original form.

Tambourine and hammond have been added (track 8 was gone), plus the guitar solo in "L'UOMO KANGURO" which I found missing and a couple of power guitars. But basically it's the 1982 sessions remixed.

More infos coming soon.

1) NON TI VOGLIO PIU'

Original version (with italian lyrics and more complex structure) of "I DON'T WANT YOU NO MO'" (HEAVY LIGHTNING, 2005)

2) LA GRANA

I wrote the lyrics for an italian cover of MONEY (Bradford/Gordy). I still have this song in my show (since 1979), and for years in the Grandmother's as well (in english of course).

Here I used the italian lyrics for a completely new song.

3) CANZONESCEMA

First version of a song which came out in my 1987 LP "ARIA MALSANA"

4) CRISTINA

My attempt at Commercial Aknowledgement

5) L'UOMO KANGURO

A mid-70s song. Funny lyrics (maybe about gurus and religion?)

6) SESSOSPESSO

Another one which we used for my first REAL LP (ARIA MALSANA, 1987)

7) PATABOOGIE

A musical patchwork I started in 1982 and completed a few days ago!

The drums are from somebody's recordings. I put my stuff on top of them: no programmable drum machines then!!!

8) KEMIFREGADELLAGUERRA?!?

At the end of 1979 USSR invaded Afghanistan, and the world was on the edge of WW3 again...

Many wrote somgs about War, Draft and I did it as well. Here are quotations of GRUPPO SPORTIVO (Don't Count On Me) and FZ (I ddon't Wanna Get Drafted.

9) LA MIA TESTA

Somebody say it sounds like....... But I think it's closer to......

Interesting lyrics. Of the untranslateble kind...

10) ARIA MALSANA

This one started as an italian cover of..... Yes, you got it. But the lyrics came out so smart (and I hate playing covers anyway), that I rearranged, added a few chords and an instrumental sesction, and it turned out to be an all-original song on my first LP.

Here it's in it original raw form. WILD!!! And with a drum machine....

11) AMORE MIO ABBASTANZA / Medley

I grew up listening to this kind of rock ballds, even before I was exposed to those dangerous Z-Rays.

Paul Anka's PUT YOUR HEAD ON MY SHOULDER was one of my favorites.

Though I have to admidt that listening tfor the first time to FZ's oldie MEMORIES OF EL MONTE gave me the input for this one.

In that song the lead singer (the Penguins) was quoting a lot of hits from the past few years.

So did I, and here's the complete list:

-- LOVE OF MY LIFE, DOREEN, I HAVE BEEN IN YOU, JOE'S GARAGE, WATERMELON IN EASTER HAY, A TOKEN OF MY EXTREME (FZ)

- WHEN THINGS GO WRONG (Godley & Creme)

- MESSAGE IN THE BOTTLE (Police)

And if you 're able to hear the last fading out guitar notes, that's the melody from the opening song from THE ROCHES debut album!!!
